Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI) is trying to bring science fiction closer to reality with the unveiling of the iX-Metro Hybrid Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV), a concept car inspired by James Cameron's blockbuster hit Avatar.
Codenamed HND-5, the iX-Metro features a "space-inspired" shell armor design, complete with triangular ice-blue LED headlights, fang-shaped fog lamps, and gold outlines, that resembles the appearance of a stereotypical extraterrestrial life form.

The interiors are no less futuristic, with a centralized cockpit that combines the center console, door panel, dashboard and front seats, giving the impression that everything is in one piece. A translucent, silicon-texture material covers the organic electro luminescence central display, while ice blue lighting bathes everything in Avatar-like glow.
"We took inspiration from NASA and sci-fi movies because spacecrafts are universally understood symbols of progress and innovation," said Rogelio Florse, Chief Designer of the iX-Metro Project.
The CUV, first unveiled in 2009 at the world's largest motor show in Frankfurt, comes with a gas-electric one-liter engine that quells gas emission, increases fuel efficiency, and lowers CO2 emissions to 80g/km.
