June Sales Fuel Up to 37.8 Percent Growth

Philippine automotive industry achieved a highest monthly sales record yet again, where combined sales reached 19,622 units.
The joint Marketing Committee of Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) said that the surge in sales versus May is largely due to the staggering demand of the market for Passenger Cars.This increase is also due to the aggressive product launches and continuous marketing support to meet the customer demand.

Both Passenger Car (PC) and Commercial Vehicle (CV) categories’ sales further accelerated compared with June 2013 results. The passenger car segment’s sales reached 8,278 units, a remarkable growth of 100.3 percent or more than double the sales year-on-year. On the other hand, the commercial vehicle segment achieved 11,344 sales and grew by 12.2 percent or 1,236 units versus June 2013.

Within the CV category, most segments outdid the sales of same month last year. AUV recorded 3,863 units or 15.3 percent growth; LCV registered 6,922 sales with 9.7 percent increase; Light Trucks sold 317 units or a growth of 23.8 percent; and Category 5 Trucks and Buses registered highest growth with 68 units or 1,600 percent.

“It is apparent that the market’s ongoing demand and increasing purchase intent have positively boosted the morale of the automotive industry for the first quarter. We are equally pleased with the overwhelming results for the second quarteras sales continue to increase. As for the month of July, we are expecting to have stable to higher sales, with our confidence essentially built on the positive response of the automotive market for the new models and marketing activities,” explained by CAMPI president Atty. Rommel Gutierrez.

2014 year-to-date sales reached 108,957 units or a growth of 24.9 percent. The top 5 major players remained unmovable with Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation (TMPC) leading the pack. TMPC captured 44.5 percent share, an increase of 39.0 percent year-on-year. Following Toyota is Mitsubishi Motor Philippines Corporation with 23.0 percent share. Ford Motor Philippines is in the 3rd spot with 8.1 percent share. Isuzu Philippines Corporation lands at the 4th position with 5.9 percent share and Honda Cars Philippines Inc. occupies the 5th spot, closely behind Isuzu with 5.3 percent market share.
